3 Considerations to Make Before Committing to a New SaaS Vendor

Selecting the right SaaS vendor has become a critical decision for businesses. The market is flooded with an abundance of options, each promising unique features and benefits. But with so many tools to choose from, the challenge lies in making the right choice.

Before committing to a new SaaS vendor, it’s imperative to navigate through the myriad choices with a strategic mindset. The provider must align seamlessly with your organisation goals, while satisfying the varying needs and requirements of different departments and employees.

To aid you in selecting the most suitable SaaS provider, consider the following factors.

    1. Ensure a smooth fit with a trial period

Before committing and locking yourself into a contract, a free trial is essential. A poorly chosen solution unused by your team can drain resources and hinder morale. A trial period allows you to explore the platform’s features and assess its suitability for your specific needs. Whether it’s a sales intelligence tool or an HR system, a reputable vendor will offer a trial to showcase their product’s capabilities.

Don’t restrict yourself to one vendor either. Shortlist a few SaaS vendors based on the agency’s specific needs and current toolset. Beyond feature comparisons, consider requesting trial versions of each and involving team members from various departments in the evaluation process. This hands-on approach allows your agency to assess how well the software integrates with your team’s workflow and meets their expectations.

If the standard trial period feels insufficient, consider requesting an extension. Many vendors will allow for this as extending trials can benefit both parties, potentially reducing the risk of cancellation and increasing the chance of future paid subscriptions.

    2. Consider vendor maintenance and support

A reliable vendor is crucial for seamless service and adequate support. Even the most valuable platform becomes useless if it suffers frequent outages or lacks adequate support infrastructure.

While occasional maintenance is inevitable, look for vendors who provide clear details about their maintenance schedules, ensuring these updates are performed outside peak usage hours to minimise disruption.

Additionally, seek providers that offer close-to-24/7 support channels. This ensures timely assistance when you encounter technical difficulties, minimising downtime and safeguarding your business productivity.

    3. Take notice of third-party reviews and brand reputation

Consulting online reviews and ratings can offer valuable insights into a vendor’s reliability. While flashy landing pages boasting perfect scores are tempting, independent review sites like Trustpilot and TrustRadius provide a more objective perspective.

Positive reviews on these platforms indicate a strong vendor reputation, fostering trust and loyalty among potential customers. These platforms allow users to share their genuine experiences with the software’s features, value, and potential drawbacks. Unlike first-party testimonials, reviews on these platforms are generally more difficult to manipulate, making them a valuable source of unbiased information.

Choosing a SaaS solution requires thorough research and due diligence. By carefully considering these three key factors – trial experience, reliability, and reputation – you can make informed decisions when choosing a SaaS provider, ensuring a smooth transition and maximising the value you receive from your chosen software solution.
