    How we tested

Every Windows laptop is subject to extensive benchmarks by the PCWorld team. These benchmarks test GPU and CPU performance, as well as battery life. The idea is to push the laptop beyond its limits, then compare it with other laptops we have tested. Below is a breakdown of each test, along with the reasons we did it.

    Windows laptops

    • PCMark 10The PCMark 10 benchmark measures how well a laptop computer can handle general tasks like web browsing, word processing and spreadsheets.
    • handbrakeHandBrake – HandBrake is more intensive than PCMark 10 It measures how long it takes for a laptop to encode a large 30GB file.
    • CinebenchCinebench tests the CPU core. Displays a 2D scene in a very short time.
    • 3DMark3DMark tests 3D performance by playing back graphic-intensive clips. This is how we test a laptop’s GPU.
    • Video rundown test: To determine battery life, we loop a 4-K video using Windows 10 Movies & TV until our laptop stops working.

    Instructions

    1.

What amount of graphics power will I require?

Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), is an important component of your device’s ability to handle games smoothly. You don’t necessarily need the most powerful graphics card to achieve reliable graphics performance. This is great news for those on a tight budget. The GTX 1650 is a great option if you are looking to save money. It’s an entry-level GPU that can play at 1080p with medium to high graphics. We recommend shooting with a GTX 1660T or higher or a modern RTX 30-series GPU if you require more power and faster frame rates.

    2.

    What about processing power, though?

For Intel processors, you should aim for a 12th-generation Intel Core i5/i7 processor. For AMD, use Ryzen 4000 or 5000. A processor with four cores can be fine, but it is better than six cores. Your machine will have more cores to help you divide the work load.

    3.

Are storage options and memory important?

Absolutely! 8GB RAM is the minimum that I recommend. However, if you have the funds, 16GB might be an option. This will improve the browser’s performance, which is crucial when you do your research. You can always swap out memory and add more later.

Storage directly affects how many games you can install. As newer titles take up more space, you should have at least 512GB SSD storage. SSDs load games much faster than spinning disks because the data is stored on chips. SSDs are also quieter and more efficient. You will also need storage space to store homework, etc.

    4.

Do I have to invest in a display of higher quality?

You should not settle for less than 1080p. An external monitor can be connected to the image if the image isn’t sharp enough. Hello to all who suffer from tension headaches because of eye strain.4K is the best option. 4K displays can be more expensive than regular displays due to their higher refresh rates and faster response time.

    5.

How long should my laptop run on one charge?

Gaming laptops tend to have poor battery life. This is due to their power-hungry nature. It is a lot of work running an AAA title with Ultra HD graphics. Depending on how you use your gaming laptops, it can last up to four to six hours on one charge. You might be able squeeze in an additional hour if you limit your homework use.
