Charleston School of Law has announced a new partnership with AI innovator Genie AI, integrating advanced artificial intelligence technology into its transactional law team curriculum. This collaboration is designed to equip students with the practical skills required to excel in contemporary in-house counsel and private practice roles, helping shift their future contribution from legal operator to strategic business enabler.
Renowned for its focus on practical legal education, Charleston School of Law is proactively responding to a significant transformation in the legal sector. The school reported that 88.84% of its Class of 2024 graduates were employed 10 months after graduation; of these, 57.5% joined law firms and 22.7% entered public interest roles. These figures reflect the institution’s dedication to producing practice-ready lawyers who serve both their profession and their communities.
Katie Brown, Associate Dean for Information Resources, played a key role in initiating this groundbreaking partnership with Genie AI.
“Ignoring AI is not an option for the legal profession,” said Charleston Law Director of the Center for Business and Transactional Law Jean Steadman. “By embedding a sophisticated tool like Genie AI into our curriculum, we aren’t just teaching technology; we’re honing core legal skills like drafting, critical analysis, and issue-spotting in a real-world context. Our graduates will enter the workforce with the practical skills and experience to not only succeed but to bring immediate, strategic value to their organizations.”
Genie AI’s open platform, proprietary legal editor, autonomous legal agents, and extensive database of market-standard contract language make it uniquely suited to prepare students for the evolving demands of the profession, where in-house legal roles increasingly require agility, strategic insight and technological fluency.
“Legal services are shifting rapidly from firms to businesses themselves,” said Genie AI CEO Rafie Faruq. “Our collaboration with Charleston School of Law embodies this shift, preparing the next generation of lawyers to drive business success through technology. Genie AI equips students with the skills to lead, not just follow, the future of legal transactions.”
The Transactional Law Team at Charleston School of Law will integrate Genie AI into its practical training programme, which mirrors real-world legal practice. Students will use Genie’s technology to draft, negotiate and redline contracts, enhancing their readiness to compete in national competitions across the United States and succeed in their future careers.
This partnership reflects a broader shift in the education sector, where AI is becoming fully integrated into teaching to prepare students for the future workforce. Genie AI continues to lead in equipping learners – from aspiring lawyers to budding entrepreneurs – with the tools, skills and hands-on experience needed to thrive in tomorrow’s professional landscape.
