Happy birthday (almost!) As we enter another year, it’s time to do one of our favorite seasonal activities: tracking down TechRadar Santa! We’ll provide live updates as St Nick moves around the globe, using NORAD and Google, the most popular trackers.
Although Santa Claus tracking is a beloved tradition, it all began with serendipity almost 70 years ago. Legend has it that a Sears catalog printed CONAD’s phone number in Colorado Springs on Christmas 1955. This led to children calling to contact Klaus.
CONAD began publishing press releases every year about Santa’s whereabouts as a way to have some fun. Tradition prevailed and CONAD handed the reins to NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command), in 1958, after its founding.
While NORAD’s Santa tracker is the most reliable source for Santa’s whereabouts in the past, there are many other options for big kids and families to search for Kris Kringle.
Google released its Santa Tracker in 2004, making them the best. It’s a completely different experience than NORAD, but still enjoyable.
Santa Trucker: NORAD Vs. Google
There are two main options for tracking Santa – they each offer different ways to track Jolly Ole St. Nick. However, it all depends on your experience.

This is the original and best way to follow Santa Claus. This website, run by the US Army, combines gruff colonels giving a short video about Santa Claus with live, current information on whereabouts.

It’s far less polished than other bots and has a poor website design.
However, it’s also the most famous and has a heart-warming history behind it—plus an army of volunteers ready to take your call to find out where Santa is.

How to play Santa Games on Mobile
Every year, when we publish this guide, we have people wondering how to play games on mobile like “PLAY!” Sometimes the button in the middle of the screen fails and will give you random games or video anyway. Google’s Santa Tracker is a newer addition to the Santa Tracker mix. It was created in 2004 and combines the power of Google Maps and intelligent knowledge of where Christmas is.
Although Google doesn’t have as much satellite tracking power than NORAD, it can be assumed that Google has made a deal to locate the North Pole in real-time using search, radar, lasers and other technologies. We won’t be able to explain magic, so don’t ask.
Santa Tracker has a lot of minigames and a website that encourages children to learn code while they are in winter wonderland.
There are some pro-Google tool moments in this Santa Tracker—Quick Draw is designed to teach Tensor to recognize Google’s image recognition to improve on it, which is a little odd—but it’s a nicely designed site and is arguably the most visually intuitive way to follow Santa.
