Final moments of 2022’s opening ceremony League of legendsThe World Championships were a spectacular spectacle. Lil Nas X, the superstar of esports, was apparently lifted into the air by a giant mechanic while the World Cup roared about him. It’s an impressive display in technical vision and expertise, which is also why Riot’s Creative director of esports Carrie Dunn has been a bit nervous lately. “Anytime you lift cultural stars in the air for your final, there’s anxiety,” she says.

Realms are the main attraction LeagueThe World Cup Finals are the finals of the competitive calendar. This pits two teams against each another who have worked all year to win the cup. The return of Lee “Faker”, Sang-hyeok, the legendary Lee “Faker”, a legend better known for his epic nickname “The Indomitable Demon King” – and his T1 side against Korea’s DRX. The opening gala, despite the fact that the actual games are very appealing, often steals the show.

In the past League Developer Riot . has been hired hologramThen there’s the augmented realityFor its live events. The team has had to be more creative over the years due to COVID-related limitations. 2020 special Mixed reality stage to make crowd-free competition more excitingWhile Last year they completely avoided a massive live show for a huge music video linked to the release of mysterious on Netflix.

The team created a scene that would appeal to the fans and audience at home. You should leave out the augmented reality, which only works when you are staring at it. Instead, they used multiple technologies, including a large jumbotron-style screen at the ground and a stage with thousands of LED tiles. The highlight of the show is undoubtedly the large holograms.

Riot used a technology known as 3D Holonet in 2019. This is a high-tech screen that can display images to create a 3D effect. This is how True Damage, a fictional hip-hop group, performed on stage in Paris. The team uses the same tools this year but on a larger scale. The three Holonet panels are 48 feet long and allow them to implement the massive mechanical moment.

It was also used for smaller and more complex moments. During the opening ceremony, LeaguePyke’s character was seen and it appeared that he was using his commercial move, “bone skewer”, in order to lure a real person to him. It required multiple elements. There was a hologram that brought the Pyke to life and subtle light cues to create movement. Multiple artists were able to perfect those cues. “Technical complexity and ambition this year are, in my experience, a new peak,” explains Executive Producer Nick Troup.

The troops said that in addition to the holographic grid, the LED stage, and the gala, 55 cameras were required to kick off the event. They also needed a nine-story lighting car, 24 30K projectors, 24 30K projectors, and an equipment center “capable of driving up 600 million pixels.” For this event, 470,000 pounds of equipment were required. Troup states, “This is not the last final weakness in our world in an arena.”

It also requires the right people. Dunn claims that they knew what they wanted even before they secured Lil Nas X. “Lil Nas X served as a mood board,” she said. “He was the vision. Although it took us some time to land it, we knew we wanted it for quite some time. So we built the vision around hoping he would fill it in.” She adds that she “certainly cried a little bit” when he finally fell. It was a combination of relief and excitement, as well the realization that we had no choice but to get to work as he was already on board. Fans got a glimpse of what to expect from Lil Nas X when it launches. “Star Walkin” single in SeptemberHe performed the following on stage at Worlds: This video featured a mechanical version. The Worlds Opening Ceremony was divided into three acts this year, each with a different song. I started withConnection“, the 2022 season theme anthem sung and performed by Ida Hayes. It led to”Shoot the fuseJackson Wang performs, with Lil Nas X closing the show. Because of its complexity, it was crucial to find a performer for the middle section. Dunn says that she saw Wang perform at an event and knew immediately that he was the right fit.

She says, “His charisma and presence on stage are undeniable.” “His ability to choreograph is unmatched, and this section of ‘Fire to the Fuse’ is very precise and very technical, and we needed someone…a fast pace with very precise and technical cues directing. His department is so closely connected to technology and Holonet that there is no room left for error.

“His charisma is unmistakable, as is his stage presence.”

The show’s other star was not an in-game character or person: it was a completely new trophy. Riot unveiled a new version, the Summoner Cup, in the lead up to the World Series Finals. Created by Tiffany & Co. It was a highlight of the ceremony. Dunn also notes that Tiffany’s mechanical eyes were a very vivid shade of blue, which made the reveal visually appropriate. It is a moment that requires thought and care, she says.

Dunn states, “It doesn’t feel like a summoner’s cup unless that moment happens in the finals, and then it’s lifted by our professional players.” “We took this moment very seriously and saw it as an opportunity to bring it into the sport.”
