Before the mega CES 2023LG gave some details about its OLED TVs at a Las Vegas consumer tech show. More details and hands-on time will be forthcoming. (I’ll be there in-person to see them in action. The C3, which is the successor to C2, will be one the most prominent models. The best high-end TV for the moneyThe G3 model promises better brightness.

The G3’s increased brightness is the biggest difference between the old and new LG OLED televisions. New light control architectures and light enhancement algorithms have increased brightness by up to 70% on the 55-, 65 and 77-inch G3 models.

Offers OLED TVs Better overall image qualityOther high-end TVs are also bright and can be used in most lighting conditions. Every bit as bright, er, FoolishBrightness is important, but especially in bright rooms HDRThe light output of the competition will be matched or beat by TV shows, movies, or maybe even the G3. QD-OLED modelsFrom Samsung and Sony. They don’t even come close. mini-LEDGroups like Samsung QN90BThen there is the Hisense U8HThe C3 can still achieve twice the brightness of an OLED TV. LG didn’t mention a higher brightness for the C3 or other models.

None of the other LG improvements that have been teased are anything I would call significant. TVs have the new “α9 AI Processor Gen6,” but in my previous tests, it was hard to tell which processing was better. The G3 was also given a new design by the company that brings the wall closer together and leaves no visible gaps when mounted on a wall. According to the press release, the company’s smart TV system was modified to improve rating, personal recommendations and “a selection” of popular content.

LG also stated that its 2023 OLED TVs would be the first to receive Quick Media Switching VRR certification from the HDMI organization. This “can eliminate the momentary black screen” that can sometimes occur when content is being switched between different connected sources. Via TV. Ports compatible with HDMI 2.1a.” This (again minor) feature is Designed for video playbackIt is not possible to play games without a QMSVRR source unit – Apple TV 4KFor example, he gets support quickly.

The LG C2 OLED TVs have provided the best picture quality among high-end TVs for the past two years. I expect the C3 to continue that tradition. The LG C2 from 2022 is still my favorite and I don’t think any of the improvements made so far make it worthwhile to wait for the C3.

LG has not yet revealed pricing or availability information for its 2023 OLED TVs. However, the G3 and Z3 will certainly be more expensive than C3. Prices for LG TVs are usually not announced until spring when they go on sale. I am expecting to get more information as well as hands on impressions of the new models during CES.
