The rumor mill is spinning again about Apple, and this week we have heard some speculation on the subject of what. Macs It comes out in 2023 — and get ready for some disappointments.

This information comes from Mark Gurman, a well-respected source on all things Apple. His latest book bloomberg(Opens in a new window)The newsletter focuses on the future of MacBooks and offers some insight into what’s ahead. Mac Pro, and an iMac (or not yet—at least not this year—in the latter case, as you’ll see). You should always be cautious about spreading rumors, even if they come from reliable sources.

Gorman says we’ll see more macbook brosThey will be available in the first half 2023. However, they will have the exact same design and features than the current 14-inch model. The only difference is the addition of M2 Pro or M2 Max chips. Gorman states that the performance boost will not be significant even on this front.

Apple’s clear plans for the future are more exciting than anything. MacBook Air15 inches laptopThe “saving grace” for all Mac models this year could be the iMac, although Gurman does not specify what he will be packing. It also indicates that the previously rumored 12-inch MacBook will not be coming, or at the very least, not on the roadmap in any near future.

A new Mac Pro will be available in 2023. However, this model is also disappointing in certain ways. Gurman believes that Apple has dropped the high-end Mac Pro’s 48-core CPU, which has 152 graphics cores, and is instead pushing a model using the M2 Ultra chip. Gurman notes that this raises questions about how the Mac Studio’s value. The new Mac Pro should be the same as the 2019 model.

Another disappointment is the fact that the RAM of the system will no longer be upgradeable because it will be soldered directly on to the motherboard.

To cap off the somewhat lackluster status, the larger iMac Pro that had been considered by Apple as a possibility — featured on and off the product roadmap, according to Gurman — now seems unlikely. Gorman notes: “I would be surprised at this point if it arrived in 2023.”

The M3 SoC will apparently be ready in 2024, which would make it possible for a redesigned 24-inch iMac to be available by the end of the year.

Analysis: A rather grim, but not surprising, rumor dump

If this sounds bleak, it’s because it does. But we must remember that this is just speculation and Gorman may be wrong on several counts. Even if he is correct, Apple’s thoughts now could change in future.

However, if the above rumors prove true, it is not surprising that the MacBook Pro will remain unchanged from its current version. Gurman calls the increase in performance of existing models “marginal,” but it’s not exactly thrilling.

These updates were expected to arrive in 2022, but it was not happening. The rumored launch time frame is now the first quarter of 2023. Gurman now says that Gurman said in the first half the year, which seems like it might indicate that the first quarter release might not happen — another slight disappointment.

We didn’t see Apple’s silicon-powered Mac Pro during CES 2023. As we hoped we wouldWe might now understand why, though things remain uncertain about the machine. Turns out the Mac Pro, however, is that Apple should presumably make it fit and look like a reasonable proposition within its own lineup — though mentioning a potential step backwards in terms of non-upgradable RAM is an unwelcome idea. It is frustrating to see the limitations on component upgrades for a computer with such a high price.

Yet, we still have it 15-inch MacBook AirIt is still possible for 2023. This could make up for the majority of the Macs on the shelves this year being either lacking in features or disappointing in other ways. A bigger MacBook Air has long been rumored, never actually shown up, but maybe now is the time — there are definitely some big fans of the idea of a 15-inch version of the laptop (similarly, Some people who are more careful about it).
