Fuel poverty advocate and energy innovator Lisa Malyon has introduced TariffChecker, a bill-checking service aimed at helping households, particularly pensioners who have lost out on the Winter Fuel Allowance, save on rising energy costs with minimal data input required.

With no anticipated additional budget relief for vulnerable pensioners this autumn, TariffChecker simplifies the process by eliminating the form-filling required by traditional energy comparison sites. By scanning a recent energy bill, the service can unlock potential annual savings of approximately £180 for non-digital households.

The service offers distinct advantages for pensioners:

    • Independent, market-wide tariff checks across all energy suppliers.
    • Volunteer-run to prioritize support for vulnerable households.
    • Accessible through simple methods, including email, SMS, and WhatsApp, without extensive data entry.

Lisa Malyon, TariffChecker founder, stated, “After 15 years in the energy sector, I’ve seen the complexity of tariffs become a burden on consumers, particularly non-digital households. Many are paying a ‘confusion premium’ of up to £180 a year, and I’m here to change that.”

Launched initially in August, TariffChecker has already helped thousands of households find substantial savings, such as a childminder in Surrey who saved £1,700 by switching tariffs while staying with the same supplier. The service uses Tariff Scanner’s complete market database to deliver accurate comparisons, independent of energy providers.

Dylan Johnson of Tariff Scanner praised TariffChecker’s mission, emphasizing that their data donation supports a solution offering direct aid to those left vulnerable this winter. Industry advisor Monica Collings remarked, “Lisa’s vision to make tariff data accessible has created a vital service for those who need it most, with the potential to transform consumer energy decisions toward net-zero goals.”

Supported by a CIO-accredited privacy policy, TariffChecker prioritizes data security while providing essential cost relief for struggling households.
