Greensleeves Lawn Care continues its UK expansion with a new South Glasgow franchise, led by local owner Mark Hull, who has traded a nearly 30-year career in banking for hands-on work in lawn care.

Originally from Belfast, Hull trained as a chartered accountant and spent decades in the financial sector across Belfast and London before settling in Glasgow. Seeking a career that aligns with his personal values and energy, Hull decided to leave the boardroom for the garden, building a business that is both independent and outdoors-focused.

The South Glasgow franchise represents Greensleeves’ commitment to growth while supporting local entrepreneurs who bring passion and expertise to the lawn care industry.

“I’d reached a point where I wanted something different,” said Mark. “I’d spent years in meetings and behind a desk, and I realised I wanted to be in control of my own future. I’ve always worked hard to help other businesses grow – now I wanted to put that energy into growing something for myself.”

Mark launched his Greensleeves franchise in September after completing the brand’s thorough training programme. The mix of classroom sessions, field-based learning and one-to-one mentoring equipped him with the knowledge, systems and practical skills to start serving customers from day one.

“The training and support have been brilliant,” explained Mark. “The week at head office gave me all the knowledge I needed, and then my Business Development Manager, Mike Hemming, came up and spent time with me on-site – that really built my confidence. Everyone at head office has been so helpful, and the other franchisees have been great too. You’re running your own business, but it never feels like you’re on your own.”

The lifestyle shift has been just as rewarding as the business journey. “Now I’m outside all day, meeting people, seeing the difference we make to their lawns – and I’m doing over 20,000 steps a day! That’s a big jump from the 6,000 I might manage in the office. I feel fitter, happier and more fulfilled. It’s hard work, but it’s the good kind – the kind that makes you proud at the end of the day.”

Starting in autumn also proved a smart move. “It’s actually been a great time to begin,” he added. “It’s given me the breathing space to get everything right – from the systems to the treatments – before things ramp up in spring. Now I’m heading into next year with real momentum.”

Cheryl Harper, Managing Director of Greensleeves Lawn Care, said: “Mark is a fantastic addition to the Greensleeves network. His transition from corporate banking into franchising shows how our model appeals to professionals who want a new and rewarding direction. With his business experience, determination and enthusiasm, we’re confident Mark will make a real success of his South Glasgow franchise.”
