NASA’s plan to decommission the International Space Station and deorbit it by 2031 is another opportunity for multinational collaboration to maintain an orbital presence. The path to achieve this goal is not yet clear.

Here’s the problem. Nobody knows what such an existence should look, how it should be built and who will manage it. Shaher Gerges, Director of Business Strategy at Orbital Reef within Blue Origin, is Shaher Gerges. Orbital Reef will be a multi-use space station located in low Earth orbit that can be used for commerce, research, and tourism by the end. Gerges creates offerings to increase growth in new and emerging markets, while keeping Orbital Reef financially sustainable.

Prior to joining Blue Origin, Gerges worked as a strategic advisor at PricewaterhouseCoopers, advising industrial companies (including the aerospace and defense industry) on market strategy decisions, internal operations strategy and multi-deal due diligence. Gerges started his career at United Launch Alliance, where he held various engineering and strategic positions as well as supporting government affairs.

Gerges holds a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology as well as an MBA from Georgetown University.
