How are Social Security payments dates determined?

Social Security Administration sends payments on three Wednesdays each month — the second and third, as well as the fourth. Your birthday will determine which Wednesday you receive your money. Payments to SSI beneficiaries generally arrive on the 1st of each month (see further). We’ll disassemble it.

• If your birthday falls on the first or 10th of a month, your payment will go out on the second Wednesday.
• If your birthday falls between 11th and 20th of a month, your payment will go out on the third Wednesday in the month.
• If your birthday falls between 21 and 31 of the months, your payment will go out on the fourth Wednesday.

What if I have both Social Security Insurance and SSI?

The payment schedule is different for those who received Social Security benefits after May 1997, and those who received both Social Security Entrance or Social Security. Instead of receiving your Social Security payment on a Wednesday (which is what it used to be), you will now receive your SSI payment on the first and third days of each month.

These payment dates may change if the first and third days of the month fall on a weekend. For example, October 1, this year, fell on a Saturday. Social Security income recipients received their October payments on September 30, and their Social Security payments on Monday, Oct 3.

When will my December Social Security Check arrive?

• December 1:Pay for those who receive SSI.
• December 2, 2012Social Security payment for those who are receiving SSI or Social Security, or have received Social Security payments since May 1997.
• Dec. 14:Social security payment for people whose birthday falls between the first and tenth month of any given year.
• Dec. 21:Social security payment for those whose birthday falls between 11th and 20th of any one month.
• Dec. 28:Social security payment for people whose birthday falls between the 21st or 31st of any month.
• December 30, 2010Pay SSI for January. This check will include a COLA increase.

Please note that November 23November was the final payment date.

What happens if the check is not received by the date I expected?

The Social Security Administration advises that you wait three additional postal days before calling if your check doesn’t arrive by the deadline listed above. This is based on your birthdate or other circumstances. To speak with a representative, call 800-772-1213 if you have not received your check.
