TL; DR

  • Some users find that the Google Lens button within the Google Images image viewer has been replaced with a new search button.
  • The search button detects faces when you look at photos that include them. This allows you to find similar photos.
  • The new button appears only to improve Google Lens features.

The Google ImagesThe app appears that it is testing a new search function. Some users have seen the function replace the Google Lens button.

Google Lens icon is one of the options that you might have seen when looking at photos in Google Photos image viewer. It can be found at the bottom right hand corner of the screen, between the Edit, Share and Delete options. You can click on it to do everything, from translating words to searching the web for similar images. However, this does not help with the search for people through private photos.

But, he discovered the hard way. Android PoliceGoogle appears to be testing a new search function that will make it easier to search for people. The function detects images that have faces and will perform a reverse search to locate other images that have that face.

Although the Google Lens button may have replaced the new Search button for some users, it doesn’t seem to be replacing Google Lens. It is actually more like enhancing what was already there.

The app will show photos with the person you tap on, so tap on a face to see more. The app will switch to Google Lens if you click on an area of the photo that is not directly related to the face.

It appears that the button is only visible to some Android users. This suggests that it is a test. You are not the only one who doesn’t see it in Google Photos.
