Microsoft Teams Targets Facebook Groups With New Communities Feature • TechCrunch

Microsoft Teams launchedCommunitiesThe company offers Android and iOS devices. announce today. Users can now create and organise groups with a sports-recreation group, event planning committee, parent teacher association, or other community group. This feature allows users to view group calendars, plan events and meetings and share documents/photos. They can also chat and make video calls.

Communities in Teams offer a “new events experience” that allows users the ability to add events to their community calendar as well as invite guests, track attendance and chat with attendees over a private messaging service. The company posted this information on its official blog. Microsoft Teams SignUpGenius, which will be available in 2023, will help users coordinate fundraisers and recruit volunteers.

Communities are now available for free in Microsoft Teams as of today. It is currently only available for mobile at launch. However, Microsoft has indicated that it will soon be available for desktop.

The Home tab in the Teams mobile application allows you to access this feature. Select “Create New Community” and then “Create From Scratch”. Next, the user selects an emoji (or photo) for their community.

To join, users must have a Microsoft account. Members can also invite others by sending a link to them or by showing a QR code.

Microsoft Teams’ launch of Communities suggests that it may be looking for new opportunities to grow beyond its role as a workplace collaboration and productivity tool. It may also be looking to compete directly with social apps like FacebookDiscord, Twitter and WhatsApp as well as Slack, which is also used to market itself to clients.

This comes a year after Microsoft attempted acquiring Discord for $10Billion. In April 2021, Discord ended negotiations with the company. Wrote The Wall Street Journal.
