Traveling the world on the road is becoming increasingly popular for many people as it gives them the freedom to explore however they want. Being out on the open road and seeing sights that can be missed on normal vacations is a feeling like no other. It can give you the chance to discover rare beauty spots, iconic landmarks, unique towns and villages, and disconnect from your busy life.

However, it can be difficult to find the right camper that meets your needs, and it can be quite expensive. There is a way to get around this and be able to have a camper that is tailored to you, giving you everything you need for traveling the world or going on spontaneous road trips. Discover these tips to transform your vehicle into a camper for ultimate road trips to enjoy the freedom of the open road!

    Research before you begin

Before you begin your vehicle transformation into a camper, you need to do thorough research to understand the best way to tackle the project. Research will help guide you and spark ideas that you may never thought were possible. From this, you can start drafting a plan together for converting your vehicle. There are so many different techniques, ideas, and approaches for converting vehicles. You will be surprised at the clever ideas for storage and space, and even the types of vehicles people manage to travel in! Take a look at YouTube videos and even join community groups on social media to gain inspiration. It’s important to not shy away from asking questions to others who have transformed their vehicle into a camper to get their opinion on your ideas.

Make a plan and set a budget

Once you have researched and gained inspiration, you can get to making a plan and setting a budget. Draft your ideas and zone your vehicle to clearly highlight what will go where. If possible, it’s best to draw a plan of your vehicle and the correct measurements to give you an accurate visualization. Doing this will help you to see how you can use the space for living areas, sleeping areas, and storage.

Budgeting for your conversion is essential as you need to break down what you need to turn into a camper and how much each stage costs. The transformation should be quite inexpensive compared to purchasing a camper, but it’s best to keep track of your finances to avoid overspending. Think about the materials you will need to convert your vehicle, the time you have to do the project, and any professional help you may need.

    Utilize smart storage solutions

As your vehicle is a smaller space, you need to think about where to store your personal items and items for the camper, such as cooking utensils and food. It is best to utilize smart storage solutions that save as much space as possible to move around. For example, having a fold-away bed with storage underneath, pull-out cupboards, under-seat storage, or even a collapsible dining table that can turn into a shelf all save lots of space. Some of these clever storage solutions can be bought as a stand-alone feature, such as storage boxes, but others may need to be something you do yourself. For complex storage, such as a pull-out cupboard, you may need professional help. You could make foldaway tables, under-bed storage, or drawers by using mfc cut to size, allowing you to keep your new camper organized and tidy while saving as much space as you can!

    Tackle condensation

As with anything that is small and open to the elements, you will come across a few challenges that need to be thought about while transforming your vehicle into a camper. One of the most significant challenges you will face is condensation. Your vehicle can get very condensed, and your windows will fog up, making it difficult to camp comfortably in your vehicle. If it’s very bad, it can lead to moisture soaking into your vehicle’s upholstery which will turn into mold. To prevent this, you will need proper ventilation. If converting a van, you can attach a large RV fan on your roof, but if you want to use your car, you will have to find a smaller ventilation technique. You can simply crack the windows open or get a small camping fan to circulate the air.

    Make space for cooking

Due to limited space, it can be difficult to cook in your converted camper. This is something you will need to consider while renovating your vehicle if you would like to cook. You need to make space and find creative and safe ways to be able to bring cooking equipment into your vehicle. It’s probably not best to use any gas or alcohol stoves in a small vehicle but you can find other alternatives to be able to cook. You could safely install electrics into your vehicle to be able to have a kettle, toaster, slow cooker, and 12V cooker appliances. If you correctly convert a van into a campervan to meet safety regulations you can have a stove, but this can’t be done for a car.

Make a small countertop that has space for a sink to slot in for a van, giving you somewhere to prep and clean dishes. For a car, have a small shelf for food prep and a bowl that can be filled with water to wash outside the car.

    Get quality insulation

Insulation is something you will more likely need in your vehicle to withstand temperature changes. This is especially the case if you plan to travel the world in your converted camper as every country and area has different weather conditions and temperatures. As well as this, destinations can also have temperamental weather and temperatures, so it’s best to be prepared. If you don’t insulate your vehicle, you can lose heat, run into severe condensation, and even have damp problems. Invest in high-quality insulation that provides excellent thermal performance, mold resistance, and soundproofing.

Use these tips to transform your vehicle into a camper for ultimate road trips to allow you to have the freedom to explore the world on the open road. Enjoy unique travel experiences in a camper that’s tailored to you and make unforgettable memories with the people you love.
