Here’s the best streaming movies this week:

There’s a lot to watch on various streaming services — sometimes it almost feels like too much. It’s not always easy to choose among the walls of options, jumping from one app to the other and looking for the perfect movie night selection. To simplify things for you, we’ve compiled some of the best new streaming movies to watch this week and to enjoy over Thanksgiving weekend.

This Norwegian Netflix original is one our favorite streaming movies. An ancient troll is suddenly awakened and a team of unlikely heroes must come together to stop it from killing many people.

Bros (2022)

Peacock — December 2

Comedy writer and star Billy Eichner is the romantic comedy that addresses the very straight history behind the genre. Eichner plays Bobby. He is a gay man who doesn’t want to be in long-term relationships, but is sick of using dating apps and getting hooked up with empty women. He meets Aaron, a similarly commitment-phobic man who is just as attracted to Bobby as he is to him, despite their differences. 

Darby and the Dead (2022).

Hulu — December 2

A supernatural teen comedy, Hulu’s Darby and the Dead sees a teen girl learning to commune with the dead after a near-death experience of her own. Darby, now introverted, spends her time helping dead people with their unfinished business. Darby has mostly given up on teen affairs. That all changes when the high school queen bee suddenly dies and wants Darby’s help convincing her friends to celebrate her 17th birthday party even though she can’t attend.

Lady Chatterley’s Lover (2022)

Netflix — December 2

Based on the classic novel by D. H. Lawrence, the subject of an obscenity trial and numerous book bans, Netflix’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover stars Emma Corrin and Jack O’Connell as star-crossed lovers. Lady Chatterley falls in love with her husband and begins a forbidden affair with the family gamekeeper.

The Lobster (2015)

Plex — December 2

The Lobster is a dark and bizarre satire by director Yorgos Langthimos. It depicts a dystopian world in which people must find their mates within 45 days or be transformed into the animals they choose. The film stars Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz as well as Olivia Coleman and John C. Reilly.

An American Werewolf In London, the classic werewolf movie, is one of the most popular streaming movies this week. Plex offers it free. Two American backpackers are attacked by a mysterious beast that kills one and then bites the other. Although none of the locals believe their story, the survivor quickly transforms into something monstrous.

John Wick (2014)

Tubi — November 1

Keanu Reeves stars as the villain in this action movie. When his puppy — a gift from his deceased wife — is killed by the son of a crime boss, retired hitman John Wick comes out of retirement looking to kill the men who hurt him. And he’ll show no mercy to anyone who stands in his way.

The Independent (2022).

Peacock — November 2

The Independent is a new Peacock original movie. It stars Jodie Turner Smith, Luke Kirby and Stephen Lang. Ann Dowd and John Cena are also featured in the film. The film is about a journalist covering an historic election that could disrupt the entire two-party system. She discovers a massive government conspiracy and it could be the decisive factor in the election.

Causeway (2022)

Apple TV Plus — November 4

Jennifer Lawrence stars as the star of this drama about a soldier returning home from Afghanistan after suffering a brain injury during combat. As she waits to be redeployed, she tries to reintegrate into her family.

My Policeman (2022).

Prime Video — November 4

The new Amazon Prime Video movie stars Harry Styles, a musician who plays a 1950s British policeman who marries a teacher and has a passionate (and sometimes illegal) relationship with an older man. The film tracks the relationships of these three characters over time, documenting social change and the complexity that comes with forbidden love.

Weird: Al Yankovic Story (2022).

The Roku Channel — November 4

Biopics give Weird Al the parody song icon Weird Al the best Weird Al treatment. The film, which is parody of biopics in general, tells the absurd and largely fictional story about the rise of Weird Al Yankovic. Al was raised in a home where the accordion was considered a sin. He goes on to fame, fortune, and a passionate relationship with Madonna, becoming the greatest musical artist of all time.

Angels & Demons (2009)

Netflix — November 9

A sequel to The Da Vinci Code, also based on a novel by Dan Brown, Ron Howard’s Angels & Demons sees Tom Hanks back as Robert Langdon. This installment sees the Harvard symbologist traveling to Rome to warn Vatican when he discovers that the Illuminati, an ancient brotherhood, has returned.

Falling for Christmas (2022).

Netflix — November 10

This Netflix original features Lindsay Lohan and Chord overstreet. It sounds like Overboard’s holiday riff. A spoiled, entitled heiress is left with amnesia following a skiing accident. She seeks refuge in the home and daughter of a kind cabin owner. Will she be able to experience the true spirit Christmas without having to return to her past?

Green Room (2015)

Plex — November 12

A punk group is caught in a terrible situation after witnessing violence at one of its shows. They must act quickly to defend themselves from white supremacists who then target them with the intent of destroying all evidence and leaving no witnesses.

Slash/Back (2022)

Shudder — November 13

Already being compared to sleeper hit Attack the Block, Nyla Innuksuk’s Slash/Back is one of the most exciting new streaming movies to check out this weekend. When an alien object lands near the Arctic Circle, a group of Inuit girls are the world’s first line of defense against invasion. Using only traditional hunting and fishing tools, they’ll have to outsmart the invading forces to protect their home and loved ones.

Fruitvale Station (2013)

Tubi — November 15

Black Panther and Creed director Ryan Coogler’s first feature stars Michael B. Jordan as a young Black man working hard to stay out of trouble and provide for his family. He is eventually caught up in a police altercation which ends in tragedy. Fruitvale Station documents the final days of his life up to that fateful day.

Smile (2022).

Paramount Plus — November 15

A therapist begins to realize that she may be witnessing supernatural forces and is being threatened by one of her patients after she receives disturbing information from her. After a disturbing incident, this horror film was a big hit in theaters. viral advertising campaign, and it’s streaming on Paramount Plus.

The Wonder (2022).

Netflix — November 16

This Netflix drama about a period in history stars Florence Pugh. It is one of the most popular streaming movies this week. An English nurse visits the Irish Midlands in 1862 to see a girl aged 11 who has stopped eating. The mystery of the girl’s ailment stumps everyone and attracts pilgrims who want to witness the girl who won’t eat.

Disenchanted (2022).

Disney Plus — November 18

The sequel to Enchanted drops on Disney Plus 15 year after the original film. It sees Giselle and Robert moving to a new community. The move throws off balance in the real world as well as Andalasia. Disenchanted stars Amy Adams (Amy Adams), Patrick Dempsey and Maya Rudolph. Idina Menzel and James Marsden are also featured.

First Reformed (2017)

Plex — November 18

A small-town pastor from upstate New York finds his peace and order shaken after he has an unsettling encounter with an environmental activist and his pregnant spouse. Ethan Hawke stars in one of the most popular streaming movies this week. It is written by Paul Schrader, who also wrote Raging Bull.

The People We Hate at the Marriage (2022)

Prime Video — November 18

This new Amazon comedy follows two bickering siblings who travel, with their mother, to their estranged half-sister’s wedding in the English countryside. Things don’t go as planned. Claire Scanlon directs the film and stars Allison Janney and Ben Platt as well as Cynthia AddaiRobinson and Kristen Bell.

Spirited (2022).

Apple TV Plus — November 18

You can revisit Charles Dickens’s Victorian Christmas classic Christmas CarolThis is the new, looser adaptation of the movie that Apple TV Plus has. This musical, starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds, is set in the present and follows a misanthrope who is visited by ghosts that take him on a magical, redemption-oriented journey. If you want a more classical interpretation, there will also be Netflix’s animated Scrooge: A Christmas Carol in December.

Dual (2022).

Hulu — November 20

Dual is a fascinating and terrifying parable. It’s one of the best movies of 2022, and one of the best streaming movies this week. When a woman is diagnosed with a deadly illness, she signs up for a program that will see her cloned to spare her loved ones unnecessary pain when she’s gone. When she suddenly becomes cured, the only way to save her life is to clone her. The two of them will have to fight until the end in a dual. So begins the woman’s training for survival.

Blood Relatives (2022).

Shudder — November 22

A Yiddish vampire aged just 115 finds his way to heaven when he meets a girl who claims she is his daughter. The young vampire appears to be telling the truth and now he sees a chance to have a family as his old muscle car takes him around America.

Cyrano (2021)

Prime Video — November 23

Joe Wright adapts Cyrano de Bergerac’s classic story in this underappreciated gem. Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage stars as the titular Cyrano, who, despite his cunning way with words, fears that his appearance makes him unlovable by the object of his affections, Roxanne. He comes up with a plan to win her affection anyway.

Good Night Oppy (2022).

Prime Video — November 23

Opportunity, or “Oppy,” was a rover sent to Mars for a 90-day mission. Instead, she remained functional for 15 years. This documentary explores Oppy’s activities on the red planet over all those years and the unique bond she has formed with her human counterparts on Earth.

Love, Lizzo (2022)

HBO Max — November 24

This documentary from HBO Max features Lizzo, the global superstar. It is one of the best streaming movies this week. The intimate documentary gives viewers a peak behind the scenes and sees the award-winning musician discussing body positivity, self-love, and the importance of recognizing Black women’s achievements.

The Noel Diary (2022).

Netflix — November 24

A bestselling author returns home to settle his deceased mother’s affairs in this new Christmas story from Netflix. He finds an old diary while going through her belongings. He meets a young woman who is looking for her birth mother. Can the old diary provide clues to their connection?
