Jobseekers will look for many attributes in a company when deciding to apply for a role. A strong environmental ethos is quickly becoming one core value that employees seek the most. Sustainability and social responsibility are tied closely with the younger generation of workers. Some reports indicate a sharp alignment with a business’ sustainable strategy and its recruitment. Meanwhile, the emphasis of apprenticeships as a viable alternative to university reinvigorates the competitive nature of employment among businesses. Companies vying for the best talent among young people are looking towards their environmental culture to persuade potential apprentices to join their teams.…

When it comes to switching from oil to gas, there are several reasons why businesses should make the change. With minimal maintenance to increased efficiency just a few of the benefits, there is a shift in behaviour that is seeing people shy away from traditional, carbon-heavy fossil fuels like oil, and switching to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG). The reasons are plentiful and, with the help of Flogas, we are going to take a closer to look at why people are ditching oil and opting for LPG and LNG solutions to fuel their business instead. Cleaner…
No matter what niche of engineering or construction you work in, it is vital that your machinery is running smoothly all year round. One OSHA report revealed that as many as 20 per cent of industrial work-related accidents are the result of equipment malfunctions or machinery operations. Though the safety aspect is enough motivation to keep machinery well-maintained, the monetary and time-related cost that your company will be hit with if a piece of machinery breaks down is something to consider too. Of course, issues with machinery can happen all year round. Depending on what climate you work in, some…
A 2018 Deloitte Survey which analysed 10,455 millennials, born between 1983 and 1994, from 36 countries across the globe, found that 43 per cent of people didn’t plan to stay in their job beyond the two-year mark — the ‘job-hopping’ generation. Furthermore, only 28 per cent of the people included in the survey expected to stay in their job more than the recommended five years. This pattern of behaviour was shown to be stronger in 2019, when a millennial manager survey found that 75 per cent of millennials believed that constantly changing jobs would help advance their careers. Long gone…
Currently, women represent only two per cent of the maritime industry, while only eight percent of employees in engineering are women. This is in stark contrast to the UK workforce as a whole, of which women make up 47%. For many women, entering a sector that’s perceived as a “boy’s club” isn’t always appealing. If a sector looks unwelcoming to women from the outside, it’s unlikely to attract female employees in any role. But this means these workers are potentially missing out on a rich experience, and businesses are losing out on some top female talent. This is especially concerning given the recruitment…
There are around 8.3 million people who want animal testing to end for good – that’s a lot of people. Today, shoppers are wanting more transparency and ethical practices across virtually all aspects of our life – whether we’re spending less on fast fashion and more on second-hand stores, putting down an expensive brand for fair trade labels, or checking our favourite glow tanning product for cruelty-free labels in the beauty aisle. Shoppers want to feel confident that nobody was harmed or exploited in the making of the product. Research has found that we are willing to pay more for…
Although we might have had a strange year, self-care certainly flourished. COVID-19 evolved beauty and wellness as we either took up new ways of looking after ourselves or developed our existing routines. Two of the major ways we did this was through skincare and exercise. 2020’s first lockdown was taken over by skincare – we swapped our foundation and powder for serums and hydration. TikTok users were giving informative videos on how to achieve great skin, we were buying products that were being raved about online, doing our own research, and creating new, bespoke routines. We’ve had so much spare…
Vulnerabilities discovered earlier this year in Microsoft’s Exchange Server are being used by cyber-attackers (including state-sponsored groups) to steal data and gain access to sensitive information. Microsoft Exchange Server is an email server, collaboration solution and calendaring service used by organisations of all sizes in countries across the globe. The issue is thought to have compromised more than 7,000 servers in the UK alone and many are still thought to be at high risk. The National Cyber Security Centre (UK) has warned that it is “vital” that all businesses take further action to secure their email servers. What are the…
Once you let the photography bug bite, whether you’re a professional or a keen amateur, you can be sure that there will be a cost associated. How expensive your passion becomes is in part down to you as there are always options available. The obvious question to ask yourself before committing to any outlay is whether you need a brand-new piece of photography equipment, or whether a second-hand, previously loved, bit of kit will cover what you need. Be clear about your budget. Planning with your head will help, though be prepared for your heart to do its best to…
