Honda Sensing, a suite of active and passive driver assistance systems, is steadily making its mark across the automaker’s entire portfolio. It offers a variety of standard safety systems that can reduce commute boredom and prevent accidents. The next generation of Honda Sensing will be available in the US within the next few years. It looks promising.

Honda announced this week the arrival of the next generation Honda Sensing 360 range in the US during the second half of this decade. It will then be standard on all new Hondas by 2030. This includes the standard Honda Sensing 360 and the Honda Sensing Elite. These have more advanced capabilities.

The Honda Sensing 360 now has all the usual safety systems you’re used to seeing—automatic emergency braking, active lane change assist, lane departure warning, and all that good stuff. The next version will include hands-free driving technology that includes single-lane running as well as lane changes. It will also have an exit warning to keep you from opening your door to cross traffic or cyclists. Additionally, it will include an emergency support system that can pull the car over if the driver isn’t responsive.

Although a Honda Legend development vehicle with this new technology may appear a little bulky, all of it will likely be hidden behind body panels once it’s ready to go into production.

Honda Sensing Elite brings artificial intelligence into the equation. The Honda release states that the Honda Sensing Elite will “recognize complex situations” and be able to handle more complicated driving environments, such off-highways. The automaker provided two examples: hands-free operation of non-highways traffic jams and automatic parking in or out of a garage.

Honda Sensing 360 expansion is expected to arrive in Chinese cars this year. A follow-up serial rollout will take place in additional markets in subsequent years.
