Google Pixel phonesAlthough they weren’t the first to use AI in smartphone development, they have consistently provided the best examples of day to day improvements that can be used for everyday purposes. They offer a variety of features, including HDRNet for better video capture and features like The image is not blurredEven better! Transcribe voice messagesThe Pixel series was pushed to NPUs on processors like the Core with ML-infused Core and NPUs. G2 tensorTo create subtle but transformative user experiences

While the Google Pixel series continues pushing the range, Computational imagingWhile we love ambient computing experiences and AI-enabled features, there are a few more features that we believe could benefit from Google’s magic touch. These are some AI-enabled features that we would like to see on future Pixel smartphones.

    The best magic eraser

Google introduced a program last summer magic eraserTool along with Pixel 6 seriesTo remove unwanted subjects and objects from photos. She then followed it up by Face and photo UnblurFeatures that blur shaky images with the Tensor processor’s machine learning capabilities.

Google should follow in the footsteps of alternative photo editors like Samsung’s Enhance-X to bring moiré or remove shadow.

However, I’d love to see Google expand the functionality. I would like to see Google follow in the footsteps Samsung’s Object Eraser and add the ability to adjust reflections and shadows. While Samsung’s app is more akin to Photoshop’s Content-Aware Fill—that is, less than perfect—I can see Google’s AI skills and massive image collections filling the gap for better spatial awareness and a cleaner look.

Smartphones are well-suited for taking photos of screens and displays. More often than not, however, you will end up with a moiré pattern on the screen caused by interference between the screen and the Bayer filter on your smartphone’s camera sensor. This style can make text hard to read and make tightly woven fabrics look odd. Samsung style Enhance-X which lets you remove moiré patterns, it would be nice to see Google bake an editing tool into it Google ImagesOr, even better, in the Camera App itself.

    Image recovery

Google doesn’t shy away from introducing advanced photo editing tools to the Pixel experience. Traditionalists might argue that optional tools such as Magic Eraser or Photo Unblur tinker with original images, but the end product is an aesthetically perfect image devoid of distractions.

It is easy to create a complete photo restoration in Google Photos.

It’s a no-brainer to use the same algorithmic approach in image recovery. Google even mentioned fixing blurry movie images in Pixel 7Lunch event. This feature has the advantage of allowing you to adjust the white balance for older scans. Google’s AI tools can also be used to correct imperfections such as scratches and grain, or to add color to black-and-white photos. There are many possibilities.

Recently, Compare the Pixel’s built-in Photo Unblur featureThe results were very similar for both manual and automatic corrections with Photoshop. You only need a few extras to make your Google Pixel the ultimate mobile photo studio.

    Synthesis view

Have you ever wanted to alter your perspective before you take a photo? There are several perspective correction tools that can be used, but they can cause distortions to the image. View synthesis can fix this without any deviations. This futuristic technology uses machine learning algorithms that generate alternate views of a scene from input from multiple images.

View synthesis allows you to take data points from multiple images, and then let you manipulate the image in publication.

Google engineers have been trying out various technologies Synthesis viewGoogle Photos has had something similar for a while (and I have implemented it myself) Cinematic imagesautomated suggestions). He was indeed being considered for an unlucky fate google clipsCamera, but it was removed due to its high computational demands. Future Tensor chipsets might have enough grunt for the feature to be enabled on the device.

The computational technology allows you to take advantage of multiple frames when shooting HDR Plus images and alter them without distortion or tearing.

    Built-in stable spread

Are you cropped a little too close to your subject? Perhaps you need more background to create the perfect artistic aesthetic. Photoshop’s context aware fill tool has been used by photographers to expand the boundaries for their images. Stable Diffusion and other image generation algorithms are now available. DALL-E 2Scale back the frame to get more.

On-device image generator algorithms allow for greater creativity or better image enlargement.

An AI algorithm that scales your image could be built on the Pixel, which would be a fantastic tool given the Pixel’s photography-centric ambitions. In fact, snapseedGoogle’s photo editor already includes an expander. This tool uses contextual cues for shrinking the image. The tool can be made more powerful by its on-device stability and Google’s vast datasets.

    Full HD HDR footage

With the new high resolution sensors in Pixel phones, it is not unreasonable to expect users want full-resolution images with the same HDR Plus magic as we get in 12MP stills.

a look, Pixel groupingLow-light photography and details are both greatly enhanced by the highest image resolution. Realme, a brand that produces high-quality images, has already spoken out in favor of using the entire resolution output from the camera sensor to deliver final results.

The full 50MP shot offers all the same benefits of standard 12MP Pixel photos. Users can crop the image as they wish or enlarge the image to any size they prefer. This feature would be great for users who want maximum flexibility when editing their photos. Although it can take longer to render the shot it is worth it. I would love to see it as an optional setting on the next generation Pixel devices.

    Quality of Life Additions

Despite Google’s emphasis on original and forward-looking technologies, it can also absorb features from Android OEMs or iPhones. First, I would like to see Google’s premium content Screenshot pixel featureOppo and OnePlus phonesIt can also blur basic information like contact photos and phone numbers.

Although it might seem like a gimmick to be able to pull out objects from an image, it’s a great tool to create collages or add to documents.

iOS 16’s ability pull objects out of photos can also be a gimmick. However, it can be an excellent addition for users who wish to create custom stickers or other creative use case.
