Apple’s new App Store pricing allows for a $0.29 Program

Apple is expanding developer options for pricing App Store apps. company announce700 new price points today and widgets in what the App store calls the largest pricing update in its 14-year history. Developers can now automatically set regional costs in response to changes in exchange rates.

Developers can now choose from nearly 900 price points in the App Store’s new structure. This is almost 10 times more than what was previously possible. Pricing starts at $0.29, and can go up as high as $10,000 depending on the demand. (If you are old enough to remember) I Rich app(Imagine a developer swooning over that upper limit. The app prices can also increase incrementally across different price bands. They can go up by $0.10 to $10, $0.50 between $10-50, and so forth.

Apple has also added different price agreements to all 175 regional stores. Developers can now use two numbers, such as 110,000 yen and rounded dollar amounts ($10.00 in place of $9.99).

Developers will also find it easier to work with global exchange rate rates thanks to the update. Apple uses the example a Japanese game developer, who receives most of his business through Japanese customers. They can now set the price for their storefront in Japan, and global prices will change automatically based upon exchange rates and taxes. Previously, developers had needed to manually do this.

Apple announced today that the new pricing structure will be available for apps that offer auto renewing subscriptions. They will be available for all other apps and in app purchases starting in spring 2023.
