Amazon’s new ad verification program will pay users $2 per month — if they make the ads they see on their site available smart phone.

The scheme is currently only available to Amazon Shopper Panel members from the UK and US. It’s a rewards program that allows users to submit receipts from third-party shops in exchange for perks.

Amazon Shopper Panel users will be able to opt in to the ad verification services. This will inform them that Amazon will “collect and use information about wherever and when you have seen ads from Amazon, such as the app or website where you saw the advertisement and the time of the day.”

    Privacy concerns

The ads may be directly from Amazon, or from third-party advertisers through Amazon Advertising.

Amazon claims that it uses an Extension personal informationInterest-based advertising and making recommendations for features that shoppers might like.

Individuals who have signed up for the service can choose to opt out at any moment and can delete their personal data. The company claims it will not share personal data it collects with any third party unless it is required to do business with them, such as an Amazon seller, or to comply to law.

Amazon’s record of transparency about personal data is not stellar. Last year, Amazon was unable to disclose personal data. Fined nearly $1 billion for violating the General Data Protection RegulationHis Gift registries allow anyone to collect personal information about users.

This has not stopped Amazon from expanding its data collection activities. Similar attempts by other tech giants have also failed. In 2012, Google Screenwise gave Amazon gift cards to people who wanted to monitor their network traffic. In 2016, Facebook gave gift cards to children between 13 and 25 years old for installing Facebook apps. VPNThis enabled the company to see web usage patterns.
