Inadvertently, a Microsoft employee announced that Notepad will be tabbed in Windows 11

An employee of Microsoft has incorrectly announced that the Notepad app will be getting the Tabs feature in Windows 11. An employee from Microsoft was a senior product manager. He posted a picture of a Notepad that had tabs and excitedly announced that “Notepad in Windows 11 now features tabs!” With a megaphone emoticon.

The tweet was deleted just minutes later, but not before Windows CentralMany Windows enthusiasts have discovered the bug through Twitter. Notepad screenshots include an internal warning by Microsoft: “Confidential.” Do not discuss features nor take screenshots. This warning means that the tabs feature at Microsoft is still in its early internal testing. However, the Notepad tabs feature could be available to Windows Insiders in the early 2023.

Notepad’s addition of tabs may signal a shift towards tabs appearing in other Windows applications. Microsoft may have removed Groups from Windows 10, but this hasn’t stopped Windows Power users from using third party tools and apps to spice up tabs in different areas of the operating system.
