Ford Motor Company reported Thursday, that its car New car sales fell by 2 percentIt will be affected by computer chip shortages and other disruptions that slow down its production of trucks, SUVs, and other vehicles in 2022.

According to the automaker, it sold 1.85 Million cars and light trucks in America last year. It also sold 13.539 heavy trucks.

Ford’s sales declined in line with other automakers. According to Edmonds market research firm, the industry sold 13.8 million new cars in 2022. This is about one million less than 2021. On Wednesday, Toyota Honda Nissan Stilants, Nissan and Honda were the top sellers. You mentioned significant declinesIn 2022, sales were a staggering 623,000 units. General Motors was an exception. New vehicle sales rose 2.5% to 2.3million vehicles.

In the past two decades, semiconductors have been scarce in the automotive industry. These little brains control key components such as the engine, transmission, and display. Although the chip shortage was somewhat lessened in 2022, other supply problems were caused in part by the Covid-19 epidemic that sometimes halted production in China and Southeast Asia.

Ford could not produce enough pickup trucks to meet demand, so sales of F-Series trucks dropped 10 percent to 653,957 units. However, F-Series remains the most-sold vehicle line in the US.

Ford’s F-150 Lightning, an electric pickup truck that was introduced last spring, was a bright spot. According to Ford, the company sold 15,617 Lightnings in 2022. This was lower than expected because it increased production of battery packs for this vehicle.

Ford also stated that it has sold 6,500 electric delivery vehicles. The Mustang Mach E electric SUV sales increased by 45 percent to 39.458 units.

The company hopes to increase sales of electric cars this year, which will drive its growth. The automaker is currently building two battery plants in Kentucky, a third in Tennessee, and a new electric truck manufacturing plant in Tennessee.
